The eyes of the 2025 African Cup of Nations fans are turning today, Monday, to the matches of the third round of the group stage of Group A, which witnesses intense competition between Morocco, Mali, Zambia and Comoros, where no team has officially qualified yet.
The Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium hosts a decisive match between the Moroccan national team and Zambia, while the Mali national team meets Comoros, at the same time. The calculations seem very complicated, as even the third place may give the owner of the best score a chance to qualify among the best four among the third-placed teams.
Morocco, the home team, needs to win against Zambia to ensure the top of the group and avoid the complexities of the calculations, while a draw is sufficient in some scenarios to ensure qualification, according to the result of the Mali and Comoros match.
As for Mali, who has two points from two draws, they will be required to win against Comoros to qualify directly, but a draw will make them dependent on the result of Morocco and Zambia.
At the same time, the Zambian team seeks to win against Morocco to ensure direct qualification, while a draw represents for them the option of waiting for the result of the Mali and Comoros match.
Comoros is at the bottom of the group with one point, and needs to win against Mali and wait for positive results to ensure staying in the competition, which makes all of today's matches decisive for all teams.
The standings of Group A after two rounds: 1 – Morocco 4 points 2 – Mali 2 points (two goals) 3 – Zambia 2 points (one goal) 4 – Comoros 1 point
