HIBAPRESS – Barcelona: Omar Razzini
Data from the latest security surveillance campaigns in the Catalonia region have revealed worrying indicators regarding the increase in some forms of crime, prompting the authorities to take a tougher stance.
In this context, the Catalan Interior Minister, Nuria Parlon, confirmed that the government will not grant Spanish citizenship to individuals proven to be repeatedly involved in criminal activities. She clarified that returning to committing crimes, especially after previous records, will be a decisive factor in rejecting citizenship applications.
The minister stressed that this approach falls within a policy aimed at enhancing public security and establishing the principle of responsibility, indicating that integration into society comes through respecting laws and adhering to the fundamental values of the state.
This statement comes amid a broad debate within political and social circles about security and immigration issues, where the authorities believe that granting citizenship should be linked to civic behavior and respect for public order, and not just an administrative procedure separate from the security reality.
