HIBAPRESS – W.A.M.
Local authorities, in close coordination with the concerned services, at the level of the mountainous Boumia commune, belonging to the Midelt province, continue their round-the-clock mobilization during this period, which is experiencing a severe cold wave, in order to protect the safety of citizens, ensure the smooth flow of traffic, and ensure the continuity of essential services.
The commune has witnessed, in recent weeks, significant snowfall that caused disruptions in traffic on some road axes, which necessitated urgent interventions to break the isolation and restore the smooth flow of traffic. In this context, the authorities have initiated a series of proactive measures to reduce the effects of weather fluctuations, within the framework of implementing the recommendations of the regional alert committee, which called for raising the level of alert, mobilizing the necessary human and logistical resources, and ensuring the continuous and effective implementation of a plan to address the effects of cold waves during the winter season 2025-2026. In Boumia commune, all preventive measures have been taken, especially after the General Directorate of Meteorology announced potential weather fluctuations (heavy rainfall and/or snowfall). At the level of "Dar Al-Omouma" in Boumia, a number of pregnant women were received inside this health facility, which provides accommodation, food, medical follow-up, and health treatments for pregnant women from the neighboring villages. Hoda, who comes from the village of Ait Zayed, is one of the women who joined "Dar Al-Omouma" in Boumia, with the help of the concerned services, in order to follow up on her pregnancy in an environment that is subject to medical monitoring. In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Hoda expressed her satisfaction with the warm welcome and the quality of medical and social services provided by this institution, which allows her, like many pregnant women in the region, to avoid the difficulties of movement that snowfall may cause on the day of delivery. The efforts made by the local authorities also include breaking the isolation of the villages affected by heavy snowfall, and supporting the local population during this period, which is experiencing a severe cold wave. For this purpose, awareness and educational campaigns were organized at the level of Boumia district by the local authorities for the benefit of the population, within the framework of a proactive approach aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens and their property in anticipation of weather fluctuations. Field campaigns were also organized to raise citizens' awareness of the importance of following weather warning bulletins, avoiding unnecessary movements, and staying informed through various means of communication. In the context of preparing for this storm, the concerned services have mobilized significant resources to deal with potential weather fluctuations, where ambulances, snowplows, bulldozers, and several other vehicles have been harnessed to ensure the safety of citizens and carry out snow removal operations on various road axes. In this regard, the head of the road maintenance and snow removal service at the Regional Directorate of Equipment and Transport, Icho Rachid, stated that the technical teams are permanently mobilized, while intervention mechanisms have been pre-positioned at the points that usually experience frequent interruptions during the winter period, especially at Tizi N'Talghamt, Imilchil, Toufkit, and Anfgou, as well as on National Road No. 13 in Hajret. The official explained that a series of proactive measures have been taken to avoid traffic interruption, immediately after the General Directorate of Meteorology announced expectations of strong weather fluctuations.
