In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared July 15 as World Youth Skills Day, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
The theme of World Youth Skills Day 2024, “Youth Skills for Peace and Development”, highlights the crucial role that young people play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
The world today faces a multitude of challenges, many of which affect young people. Conflicts that disrupt education and stability, a polarized digital environment that breeds negative attitudes, and persistent economic inequalities all limit the opportunities available to young people. These challenges threaten not only their futures, but also the overall stability of societies. Equipping young people with the skills needed to foster a culture of peace, develop responsible global citizens, and promote sustainable development is essential to building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all.
