The Spanish Canary Islands witnessed an unprecedented security operation that resulted in the seizure of approximately 10 tons of cocaine, which was carefully hidden inside a salt shipment coming from Brazil and heading to Europe. This operation is considered the largest of its kind in the history of Spain in terms of the amount of cocaine seized.
According to security sources, the police forces were able to intercept the ship at sea after a precise monitoring and tracking operation, where the shipment was inspected and huge quantities of drugs were found hidden in a professional manner to avoid detection. The operation resulted in the arrest of 13 people who were on board the ship, who are suspected of being involved in an international drug smuggling network.
This operation was carried out with precise coordination between the Spanish authorities and the Brazilian police, in addition to close cooperation with international agencies specialized in combating drug smuggling, within the framework of joint efforts to combat transnational organized crime.
The security authorities confirmed that this strong blow constitutes a major setback for drug smuggling networks in Latin America and Europe, and at the same time reflects the high level of coordination between international security agencies in confronting this type of serious crime.
