HIBAPRESS – Omar Razzini
The Spanish National Police in the city of Huelva, southern Spain, arrested the owner of a farm working in the agricultural sector, on suspicion of involvement in cases of labor and sexual exploitation of a number of migrant workers, exploiting their precarious situation and their need for work.
According to security sources, the suspect was imposing harsh working conditions on the victims and threatening them with dismissal or reporting them to the authorities if they refused to comply with his orders. Investigations also indicate the existence of extortion practices and assaults that affect human dignity. The same sources clarified that among the victims were Moroccan immigrants who were working in the fields without legal contracts or social protection, in addition to workers of other nationalities in an irregular situation. The accused has been placed in custody and presented before the competent court, while a victim protection protocol has been activated, with the provision of psychological and legal support for them, and ensuring that they are not deported during the investigation period. The National Police affirmed that this operation falls within the framework of combating exploitation and human trafficking networks, stressing that Spanish law protects all workers, regardless of their administrative status, and that any violation of human rights will be met with the most severe penalties. It should also be noted that the authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover other potential victims, and they have called on all those who have been exploited to file a complaint without fear.
