HIBAPRESS
Following the African Cup of Nations final match yesterday between the Moroccan national team and its Senegalese counterpart, both the "Community of Moroccan Doctors in Senegal" (CMMS) and the "League of Moroccan Students in Senegal" (LEMS) issued a joint statement, expressing their deep concern regarding some unfortunate events and tensions that affected some members of the Moroccan community residing in Senegal.
Categorical Rejection of Violence
The statement strongly condemned all forms of violence, provocation, or stigmatization, regardless of their source. The signatory bodies affirmed that sports, especially football, should always remain a bridge for fraternity, mutual respect, and rapprochement between peoples, stressing that it cannot under any circumstances be a justification for any transgressions or hostile behaviors.
Historical Relations Beyond the Green Rectangle
The statement mentioned the strength and depth of the historical ties that unite the Kingdom of Morocco with the Republic of Senegal, describing them as "centuries-old" relations built on solid spiritual, cultural, humanitarian, and diplomatic foundations. The organizations added that these exemplary relations should not be affected by the result of a football match or a sporting competition, no matter its importance.
A Call for Calm and Responsibility
In conclusion, the Moroccan organizations issued an official and urgent appeal calling for calm and self-control from all parties, and for the adoption of a spirit of responsibility and the avoidance of being drawn into provocations, as well as the preservation of the values of fraternity and peaceful coexistence that have always characterized the relationship between the two brotherly peoples.
These actions come within the framework of seeking to ensure the safety of the Moroccan community and to preserve the friendly and fraternal climate that links Dakar and Rabat, away from the excitement of the stadiums and the repercussions of sports competition.
