HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Musaed
While the eyes of football fans turned towards the African continent, Morocco transformed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations into a historic event that is not limited to sports alone, but extended to be an "investment leap" and an "economic wealth" that changed the features of the Kingdom's infrastructure, paving the way for hosting the 2030 World Cup.
Recent data revealed a huge gap in the volume of investments directed to the tournament compared to previous editions. While Côte d'Ivoire invested about a billion dollars for the 2023 edition, Morocco allocated a huge budget of $15 billion for the 2025 edition. This figure does not only reflect the desire for a successful organization, but embodies a "sustainable development model" that aims at a comprehensive modernization of facilities and services.
This financial boom did not stop at the organizer's borders, but extended to include the budget of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Where expectations indicated a growth in the union's revenues by 88% compared to the Côte d'Ivoire cycle, rising from $166 million to a record $312.8 million. This insane increase is due to breaking records in sponsorship contracts and television broadcasting rights that competed for the opportunity to be present in Moroccan stadiums.
During the 29 days of football competitions, it turned into a huge economic engine, where statistics showed that 1.5 million visitors flocked to Moroccan cities, and more than 100 thousand visitors coming from Europe alone, with an average spending exceeding $1,000 per person.
This intense tourist movement injected total revenues into the Kingdom's economic arteries amounting to $1 billion, which revitalized the hotel, transportation, and restaurant sectors, and created new job opportunities for Moroccan youth.
Experts confirm that this huge spending ($15 billion) is not just consumption for a passing occasion, but a long-term investment. Morocco is laying the foundation for an integrated development model, making its stadiums and infrastructure a global standard, which makes it fully ready to host the "2030 World Cup" with a strong file that amazes the world.
Morocco is not organizing just a football tournament, but is opening the doors to huge economic wealth, and proves that sport is the real locomotive for development and global attractiveness in the twenty-first century.
