HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Elbaz
A 28-year-old Moroccan migrant died a short while ago on Monday evening after being shot by an Italian police officer during a security operation to combat drug trafficking in the Rogoredo area, located on the outskirts of Milan.
According to initial data issued by the Italian authorities, the victim, who was known to the security services and had a criminal record, brandished a weapon at the police officers during a security sweep, prompting one of the officers to open fire, claiming self-defense.

In a subsequent development, technical investigations revealed that the weapon held by the Moroccan migrant was not a war pistol, but a sound pistol that had been modified to look like a real weapon, which reopened the discussion about the circumstances of the security intervention and the limits of the use of force.
The public prosecutor at the Milan Court of Appeal continues his investigations to determine legal responsibilities, pending the issuance of final official results regarding the incident, which has sparked political and media controversy in Italy.
