Marrakech: Laftit chairs an expanded meeting on preparations for the 2030 World Cup

Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit chaired an expanded meeting on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region, devoted to examining the progress of preparations for the organization of the 2030 Football World Cup.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Governor of the Marrakech prefecture, Farid Chourak, as well as representatives of public institutions, external services and all the stakeholders involved in these preparations.

In his speech, Mr. Laftit indicated that this meeting is part of a series of similar meetings, held in the cities scheduled to host the 2030 World Cup matches, and this in the context of intensive preparations for the organization of this global sporting event, alongside Spain and Portugal.

The Minister, in this sense, called on the various stakeholders concerned to deploy all necessary efforts and to mobilize the essential financial and human resources to accelerate the pace of preparations, emphasizing the importance of making these preparations a success, so that the Ochre City is ready for this world football event.

In a statement to the press, Mr. Lekjaa stressed that the city of Marrakech, thanks to its infrastructure, its historical heritage, as well as the various development projects launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will be a key player in the organization of future world events including the 2030 World Cup.

He added that Marrakech has demonstrated over the years its exceptional capacity to organize global events, recalling in this context the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, which were held in the city in the best conditions.

Furthermore, Mr. Lekjaa noted that Marrakech’s commitment to organizing and hosting major events in the future should accelerate the city’s development dynamics in various fields, saying that this promotes its “unique” cachet on a global scale.

During this meeting, marked by the presentation of reports by the various stakeholders involved in the organization of the 2030 World Cup and the sporting events that will precede it, the emphasis was placed on development projects and infrastructure that should enable Moroccan cities, including Marrakech, to be well prepared for this global football event, in accordance with the requirements and standards of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), particularly with regard to stadium and training site infrastructure, transport and mobility, accommodation and sustainable development.
