HIBAPRESS – Rabat

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, revealed that the sports sector in Morocco has witnessed a deep social and structural transformation in recent years, encompassing its organizational structure and territorial reach, within the framework of a comprehensive reform based on the high royal directives and aimed at building a sports system close to the citizen, and more inclusive and effective.

Akhannouch explained, during the monthly session of questioning in the House of Councillors, dedicated to the topic of "Government Policy in the Field of Sports: Achievements and Stakes", that the government has worked to move from fragmented and circumstantial management to an integrated system that relies on organization, framing, expanding the base of practice, and improving the sports offer, reflecting an advanced understanding of the role of sports within society.

The Head of Government pointed out that among the most prominent indicators of this transformation is what the organization of sports has witnessed at the national level, where the Kingdom today has 57 sports federations that oversee the different specializations, frame competitions, keep pace with training, and represent Morocco regionally and internationally. This organization is also strengthened by 261 regional leagues distributed across the various regions of the Kingdom, which reflects the increasing territorial reach of the system and confirms that sports are no longer limited to the center, but are available to varying degrees in the various provinces and regions.

Akhannouch added that the organizational structure alone is not enough, but it must be linked to a vibrant community fabric close to the citizen, capable of embracing daily practice and consolidating the culture of sports in society. In this context, he revealed that the number of sports associations has witnessed a significant increase from 4,745 associations in 2021 to more than 7,000 associations in 2025, an increase of more than 53 percent in just four years.

The Head of Government explained that this growth is not just numbers, but reflects a real social transformation, where each new association represents an additional space for practice, an opportunity for children, youth and women, and a local initiative that often relies on volunteer efforts and great collective will.

Akhannouch pointed out that the current community fabric includes about 500,000 members, a figure that highlights the expansion of the base of practice, but at the same time imposes great responsibilities at the level of framing and quality.
