US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that the number of deaths during the protests in Iran is estimated to be in the thousands, noting that Tehran is "weaker than ever."
Rubio explained during a hearing in the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate that "the protests in Iran may have subsided, but they may be renewed in the future," adding that estimates indicate that the number of deaths in the protests is estimated to be in the thousands. He stressed that "Iran is weaker than ever," pointing out that Venezuela was the primary agent for Iran and Russia in the Americas. Regarding the US operation in Venezuela, which resulted in the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Rubio explained that his country "is the only country in the world that was able to carry out an operation against Maduro." He added that "America is better off in the absence of the Maduro regime, and Venezuela is also better off," highlighting that the United States has established a "very respectful and productive" communication channel with the current leaders in Venezuela. He added, "We believe that we will very soon be able to establish an American diplomatic presence on Venezuelan soil," recalling that the United States had made numerous attempts to push Maduro to leave Venezuela voluntarily, "but he is not a person with whom a deal can be made," according to his expression.
