A delegation from the House of Councillors, headed by the Council's representative to the Andean Parliament, Abdelkader Salama, and including the Secretary of the Council, Councilor Abd al-Rahman al-Wafa, and the Council's representative to the Central American Parliament, Councilor Ahmed Lakhreaf, held a meeting with the President of the Andean Parliament, René Daniel Camacho, on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum held in Panama City.
A statement by the House of Councillors stated that the Moroccan delegation, during this meeting, expressed, on behalf of the President of the Council and all its components, its warmest congratulations to the President of the Andean Parliament on the occasion of his election, reiterating the House of Councillors' commitment to continue activating the cooperation mechanisms agreed upon between the two institutions, and to enhance parliamentary dialogue and coordination in a way that serves the values of rapprochement and South-South cooperation. The statement included no mention of Aziz Akhannouch or Tahraoui.
For his part, the President of the Andean Parliament praised the dynamism of the Moroccan presence within the parliamentary organizations in Latin America, noting the role played by the Kingdom in supporting bridges of communication and understanding, and the potential that parliamentary cooperation offers to strengthen regional integration paths and enhance the exchange of experiences between the two institutions.
The discussions also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the prospects for developing bilateral relations, especially with the Bolivian side, where a number of Bolivian parliamentarians, along with the Moroccan delegation, expressed their desire to give a new impetus to cooperation between the two countries, especially in light of the announced orientations of the newly elected Bolivian government regarding openness to the world and strengthening partnerships, especially with African partners.
In this context, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening channels of communication and cooperation, including studying ways to enhance diplomatic representation to serve this direction and support investment and exchange opportunities.
In a related context, the Secretary-General of the Andean Parliament, Eduardo Chiliquinga Mazon, praised what the Kingdom of Morocco has achieved, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, of remarkable economic development, especially in the field of infrastructure, considering that Morocco's success in organizing major continental events, and its readiness to host major international sporting events, embodies the organizational and developmental capabilities available to the Kingdom.
He also reiterated, at the same time, the Andean Parliament's position supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, and its appreciation for the Moroccan initiative for autonomy as a serious and realistic proposal.
For his part, Lakhreaf highlighted the importance of the institutional presence of the Moroccan Parliament within the various regional parliamentary organizations in Latin America, which reflects the position that the Kingdom attaches to this region, and its keenness to consolidate bridges of cooperation and dialogue at the political, economic and cultural levels.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continuing coordination and consultation between the House of Councillors and the Andean Parliament, and working to develop additional cooperation prospects, in a way that enhances the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a lever for rapprochement between peoples and supporting development and stability paths.
