An explosion rocked an eight-story residential building on Al-Moallem Street in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, on Saturday, leading to the collapse of part of its facade and turning it into rubble that covered cars parked at the site.
According to Iranian media, the incident resulted in the destruction of two floors and damage to several cars and a store, while rescue and fire teams began relief operations, with the likelihood of a gas leak being behind the explosion. The incident comes against the backdrop of rising regional tension, after the United States warned the Iranian "Revolutionary Guard" against conducting maneuvers it described as unsafe in the Strait of Hormuz, following Tehran's announcement of conducting live-fire naval drills. The US Central Command affirmed that it would not tolerate movements that could endanger its ships or commercial navigation. In the same context, the American President spoke of deploying a large military force near Iran, in a pressure message that coincided with his confirmation of the continuation of the diplomatic path, amid fears of any escalation that could threaten the stability of the region.
