HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
"HIBAPRESS" learned from a source that the Al-Shawiyin douar, affiliated with the commune of Oulad Zbayr in the province of Taza, witnessed a tragic incident today, Saturday, following the floods of Wadi Al-Masabin sweeping away a 14-year-old student who was studying in the third year of preparatory education.
According to the available data, Wadi Al-Masabin, which crosses the douar and receives water from a number of neighboring streams and valleys, has experienced an unprecedented water load since the day before yesterday, Thursday, as a result of the heavy rainfall that the region has witnessed in recent days, which led to the formation of strong and sudden floods that posed a real danger to the local population, especially children. Upon the incident, and according to the same source, the local authorities, led by Oulad Zbayr, along with elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection, mobilized their efforts and moved to the scene in an attempt to rescue the girl, but the force of the floods prevented this, as her lifeless body was found after she had died of suffocation by the waters of the valley. This painful incident brings back to the forefront the dangers associated with flash floods, especially in rural areas that are crossed by valleys, in light of the climate changes that the country is witnessing, and the resulting heavy and sudden rainfall. In this context, the meteorological services called on citizens to exercise extreme caution and adhere to safety guidelines, especially during periods of heavy rain, with an emphasis on the need to monitor children and prevent them from approaching the courses of valleys and rivers, to avoid similar accidents.
