Five Moroccan airports are preparing to adopt a new automated control system called “electronic gates”, with the aim of facilitating the processes of managing aircraft boarding passes through automatic gates in security control areas.
The system will be implemented in the airports of Nador, Tangier, Fez, Jeddah and Agadir, after an agreement concluded with the Moroccan branch of the international air communications company SITA, for an amount of more than 65 million dirhams.
SITA BV was the only entity to respond to the call for tenders launched by the National Airports Office (ONDA).
The new system relies on biometric data technology to verify the identity of travelers, a technology already used in a number of airports for passport control, which is expected to improve efficiency and speed up security procedures at Moroccan airports. It could also open the door to expanding the use of this technology in other areas, which would strengthen the use of modern technological solutions in different sectors.
