This Friday, July 26, athletes from all over the world will parade in the colors of their country during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. Among the costumes, those of Mongolia have particularly attracted attention and are enjoying great success on social networks, reports the American media CNN.

Between tradition and modernity

Embroidered vests, pleated dresses, gold accessories… Three colours dominate: blue, red and white. The outfits incorporate floral patterns and ancient symbols, such as the “Soyombo”, a special character derived from Sanskrit, present on the Mongolian flag. As a little nod, emblems associated with Paris and the Games, namely the Eiffel Tower and the Olympic flame, are also finely sewn onto the fabric.

For female athletes: ceremonial earrings and ornate bags. For men, archery hat, belt and traditional Mongolian boots.

According to the Mongolian National Olympic Committee, each outfit took an average of 20 hours of work to make.

The clothing designs are the work of Michel & Amazonka, a brand based in Ulaanbaatar, the country’s capital, and founded by two sisters, Michel and Amazonka Choigaalaa.

In an interview with the pureplayer RedHero Atlas, they explain that they want to highlight Tibetan religious art, Mongolian tradition and culture, through modern and contemporary design. Their signature: the “mixture of decorative elements typical of Mongolia, with European styles”.

“It’s the most beautiful costume”

With this mix, Mongolia has hit hard, and aimed right. Recently unveiled, the country’s outfit has largely shaken the web, judging by the hundreds of compliments expressed online. “This level of detail is just incredible,” comments one Internet user, under the publication of the brand unveiling the collection. “It’s breathtaking!” exclaims another. “This is the most beautiful costume I’ve seen so far,” exclaims yet another. On the networks, the compliments are piling up. Internet users are unanimous: the Mongolian outfit is a real success.

“They just won the Olympics before they even started,” joked fashion editor Ryan Yip in a video posted on TikTok and viewed more than two million times, according to CNN.
