HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Elbaz
The Consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco in Tarragona has recently been working to intensify its efforts to regularize the legal status of a number of members of the Moroccan community residing within its territorial jurisdiction, as part of a new administrative approach based on improving the quality of services and facilitating access for users.
According to consistent data, the consulate has adopted a policy based on administrative openness and simplification of procedures, by doubling the pace of work and expanding the margin of daily reception, with the aim of addressing pending files and responding to the increasing demand for consular services, especially those related to identity documents, civil status, and administrative procedures related to the legal status of immigrants. These steps fall within a supervisory vision led by Consul Ikram Chahin, who seeks to establish a more interactive consular work model with the expectations of the community, based on direct communication, listening, and improving reception conditions, in line with the directives aimed at modernizing the administration and improving its image among citizens abroad. Sources from the Moroccan community in Tarragona stated that this dynamic has contributed to easing congestion and reducing waiting periods, and has also restored a degree of trust in the role of the consular institution as a key player in accompanying the conditions of immigrants, especially those who face legal or social complications. Observers of consular affairs believe that these initiatives fall within a general trend aimed at upgrading Moroccan consular services abroad, by moving from the logic of traditional administrative management to a more flexible and efficient approach, taking into account the transformations in immigration issues and the requirements of the Moroccan communities in the host countries. Pending an assessment of the impact of these measures in the medium term, the main bet, according to community activists, remains to ensure the continuity of this approach and strengthen it with sufficient human and organizational capabilities, which guarantees the consecration of a culture of proximity and transparency within the consular facilities, and the effective response to the expectations of the Moroccan community.
