The American police in Rhode Island announced the death of three people, including the perpetrator, and the injury of three others in a shooting incident that occurred on Monday.
The incident occurred inside the "Dennis M. Lynch Arena" ice rink in the city of Pawtucket, during a high school boys' hockey game, which caused a state of panic among the students and parents present. In a press conference, Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves confirmed that the shooting was not random but was a "targeted event," likely resulting from a family dispute or domestic violence that turned into a murder-suicide. Preliminary investigations revealed that the perpetrator, a man in his thirties from the local population, shot the victims (including a young girl, according to some reports) before taking his own life, indicating that there was no additional danger to the public or a search for another suspect. The site witnessed a major security alert, where players from cooperating school teams (such as Coventry and Blackstone Valley co-op) and the fans were quickly evacuated, and the three injured were taken to hospitals for treatment. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) participated in the investigation to support the local police. For his part, the state governor, Dan McKee, expressed his deep sadness for this tragedy, calling for prayers for the victims and their families.
