Moroccan notaries have hinted at taking new escalating protest steps, protesting what they consider a disregard for their substantive observations regarding the draft law regulating the profession.
This came after a comprehensive warning halt in providing services during the past two days, in a pressure message directed to the ongoing legislative path. The professional body believes that the adopted formulation of the draft law did not respond to its proposals related to ensuring contractual security for citizens, providing the necessary legal and technical mechanisms to practice the profession efficiently, as well as reservations on some organizational procedures that it considers complex for client transactions, and on the conditions for entering the profession, which, according to it, do not reflect the requirements of modern field work. Pending the discussion of the project within the second chamber of parliament, the body affirms the continuation of institutional advocacy while keeping the option of escalation open if a real dialogue is not opened that leads to amendments that take into account a balance between protecting the rights of citizens and ensuring fair professional working conditions for notaries.
