Shtour Ali, the president of the Moroccan Association for the Defense of Consumer Rights, which falls under the umbrella of the Moroccan University of Consumer Rights, warned against the continuation of reckless driving within residential neighborhoods, considering that these behaviors pose a direct danger to the safety of citizens, especially children, women and the elderly.
The speaker clarified in a statement to "HIBAPRESS" newspaper that some young people deliberately drive at excessive speeds within alleys and narrow streets, in clear disregard for traffic rules, turning residential spaces into what resembles "exhibition arenas," instead of being shared spaces that are supposed to be characterized by respect and caution. The president of the Moroccan Association for the Defense of Consumer Rights stressed that the road is a shared public space, and not an area for adventure or boasting, warning that a moment of recklessness could turn at any time into a real tragedy that would leave behind huge human losses. He added that the citizen's right to safety is guaranteed under Law No. thirty-one point zero eight concerning consumer protection, which stipulates the protection of individuals from anything that may pose a danger to their health or safety, in addition to the provisions of the traffic code that impose clear penalties against anyone who threatens road safety. The president of the association stressed that the efforts made by the security services in traffic control and punishing violations remain important, but they are not sufficient on their own unless they are accompanied by a collective assumption of responsibility. He considered that the family bears a fundamental role in education and guidance, and civil society is also responsible for intensifying awareness campaigns, while young people must adhere to the spirit of citizenship and abide by the law. He concluded his statement by calling for respect for traffic rules and prioritizing the logic of reason over reckless behaviors, stressing that the safety of the citizen is above all else, and that the law exists to protect everyone and preserve the right to security within the public space.
