The American newspaper, The New York Times, revealed that Iran has begun deploying ballistic missile launch platforms along its western borders with Iraq, in a military move that, according to the newspaper, allows for the ability to target Israel.
The newspaper explained that the Iranian missile deployment was not limited to the western front, but also included the southern coasts overlooking the Gulf, where these platforms are now within range of American military bases and other targets in the region, reflecting the expansion of Tehran's military preparations. The New York Times indicated that the Iranian moves stem from a firm belief among decision-makers in Tehran that American military strikes have become "inevitable and imminent," despite the continuation of channels of diplomatic dialogue between the two sides in an attempt to contain the escalation. The newspaper considered that this deployment reflects a shift in Iranian strategic calculations, as Tehran seeks to strengthen its deterrence cards and prepare for the scenario of open confrontation, in light of increasing regional tensions and fears of a slide into a wider clash.
