HIBAPRESS
The "Al-Muhajer" series has caused a violent shock in the social and professional circles in Algeria since its broadcast as part of the Ramadan drama race, where the artistic work turned from a source of entertainment to a focus of heated debate about the limits of creativity and the image of public institutions.
The spark of protest started from within the medical sector, which saw in the character of the series' hero, the doctor who exploits his professional position to harass girls in the work environment, a direct distortion of the reputation of the white-coat wearers. This dramatic premise sparked a sharp division in public opinion; While some considered it a gross insult that gives a negative and biased view of what is happening inside Algerian hospitals, others defended the work as a mirror of realistic phenomena that may occur in any sector, stressing that drama does not necessarily aim to generalize the aberrant behavior on all members of the profession. In an escalating step, the National Union of Public Health Practitioners initiated contacting the audio-visual regulatory authority to demand the series be stopped, based in its complaint on an episode that filmed its events in Qubba Hospital in the capital, where it was considered that the portrayal of a doctor with indecent behaviors while performing his duty completely contradicts the principles and ethics of the sacred profession. Although the union did not deny in its statement the existence of individual rejected actions in the health sector as in other sectors, it emphasized that the series targeted the "nobility of the status" and the value of trust that connects the patient with the health system. With this clash, the "Al-Muhajer" series puts the relationship between art and reality under the microscope, highlighting the eternal conflict between the creator's desire to reveal the unspoken, and the right of society to protect the image of its humanitarian professions from stereotypical distortion.
