The case of the fake account active on social media in the Ain Chkaf commune is witnessing new developments, after an investigation was opened by the competent authorities to identify its owner, following posts that were considered offensive and carried accusations of defamation against the governor of Moulay Yacoub province.
According to the circulating data, the content published through the account in question included direct references to the name of the governor of the province, in the context of discussions related to local political disputes. This information has sparked mixed reactions, especially with the confirmation of a number of local actors that the disputes referred to fall within political conflicts between elected officials and have nothing to do with the territorial administration or the representative of the regional authority. In this context, observers of local affairs in the Ain Chkaf commune considered that the involvement of the governor's name in political disputes between elected parties would confuse political and administrative responsibilities, stressing the need for accuracy and responsibility in publishing, especially through the digital space. This investigation comes within the framework of the legal provisions framing the use of social media, which criminalizes acts of defamation and the publication of allegations that affect individuals or institutions without legal backing. It also falls within the efforts to enshrine the responsible use of digital platforms, and to ensure respect for the ethics of public debate. The results of the ongoing investigation are expected to reveal the circumstances of this case, in order to arrange the necessary legal consequences, in accordance with the law, with the emphasis that all parties concerned remain innocent until their responsibility is proven by a final court judgment.
