The new coach of the Moroccan national team, Mohamed Wahbi, announced the joining of Portuguese coach Joao Sacramento to his technical staff, to take the position of first assistant with the "Atlas Lions".
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation had decided to appoint Wahbi as the technical director of the Moroccan national team, succeeding the former coach Walid Regragui, who recently left his position. Wahbi confirmed during his official presentation conference that Sacramento would be an essential part of the new technical staff, referring to his great experience in working within European clubs. Who is Joao Sacramento? Joao Sacramento is one of the young Portuguese coaches who have made a remarkable name in the field of tactical analysis and training. He began his career as a tactical analyst in the youth categories of the Portuguese club Sporting Braga, and he is also proficient in speaking several languages, including English, Spanish, and French. Sacramento gained wider fame when he became a close assistant to the famous Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, where he worked with him at Tottenham Hotspur between 2019 and 2021, and then accompanied him later in Italian Roma in 2021. He also had training experiences in several prominent European clubs, including Lille and Monaco, in addition to working within the technical staff of Paris Saint-Germain during the 2022-2023 season. Diverse training experiences Sacramento also worked as an assistant coach at Al-Duhail Club in Qatar, before he had his first experience as a head coach when he took over the leadership of LASK Linz in Austria in 2025, but his experience there did not last long after he left the team after only nine matches. Famous shot with Mourinho Sacramento was also famous for a funny shot during his time with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham, during a match against Manchester City in the English Premier League. During the match, which ended with Tottenham winning 2-0, Sacramento drew Mourinho's attention to the fact that City player Raheem Sterling had a yellow card and might be sent off for claiming to have fallen inside the penalty area. Upon hearing this information, Mourinho's reaction changed quickly, as he got up from his seat and headed towards the fourth referee to ask him to show Sterling a second yellow card, in a scene that sparked a lot of interaction and laughter at the time.
