HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
Sources stated that the United States and Israel have discussed the possibility of sending special operations units to Iran to secure its high-enriched uranium stockpile, in addition to controlling Kharg Island, which is responsible for about 90% of Iranian crude oil exports.
According to American and Israeli officials, the options discussed by former President Donald Trump include removing the enriched uranium from Iran completely or involving nuclear experts to dilute it on site, with the participation of special forces elements and possibly experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency. The sources clarified that such operations will only take place after ensuring that the Iranian army no longer poses a direct threat to the participating forces, and that the operations are likely to be limited and not a large-scale deployment of ground forces.
These discussions come after American-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last June, which led to the burial of part of the uranium stockpile under the rubble, with the destruction of most of the centrifuges, without any evidence of the resumption of enrichment since then. Kharg Island, located about 25 km north of the city of Bushehr, is a strategic location for exporting Iranian oil, with about 950 million barrels passing through it annually, and it contains ports and oil storage networks, in addition to a military base and an airport. A senior US official confirmed that "the concept of sending ground forces for Trump is not as the media portrays it," noting that the operations will be limited and focused on specific strategic targets.
