President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday investment of around 25 billion dollars to finance the “gold dome”, an anti-missile defense system which should ultimately cost nearly $ 175 billion.
“I am pleased to announce that we have officially selected an architecture for this state -of -the -art system,” said Trump, who was speaking from the Oval office with his defense secretary, Pete Hegseth.
This anti-missile system, which will be operational by the end of the Trump mandate, consists of an air defense shield made up of sensors, satellites and missile batteries across the entire American territory.
General Michael Guetlein, currently vice-head of space force space operations, will supervise the project, said Trump.
A few days after his inauguration in January, Trump had signed a decree concerning this system intended to counter the air threats of “new generation”, in particular ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.
Speaking on Tuesday in front of the press, the tenant of the White House indicated that the system would be made up of terrestrial, maritime and space “cutting -edge” technologies.
The shield, he said, will be “even able to intercept missiles launched on the other side of the world, or launched from space”.
Canada has asked to join this defense system, the success rate of which is very close to 100%, “said the American president.
