Bahraini authorities have arrested six people, including Bahraini national football team player Ahmed Mirza Moussa, on charges of misleading public opinion via social media.
The Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced that the Cybercrime Control Department of the General Department for Combating Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security, was able to monitor the six individuals and arrest them. The Ministry, via its official website, clarified the names of the detainees, including player Ahmed Mirza Moussa. The statement added that the arrest came after those concerned filmed and published video clips related to the effects of what it described as "Iranian aggression," while expressing sympathy and glorification for those hostile acts. The Ministry confirmed that these clips were circulated through their accounts on social media platforms, which it considered misleading to public opinion and instigating fear among citizens and residents, in addition to harming public security and order. At the end of its statement, the Ministry indicated that the necessary legal measures had been taken against the detainees, and they have been referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the investigations. It is noteworthy that Ahmed Mirza Moussa, born in 1991, is a Bahraini international player who plays as a right-back, and he has previously represented a number of local clubs, most notably Al-Hadd Club and Al-Khaldiya Club, and he also participated with his national team in several international competitions, including the 2021 Arab Cup.
