Qatari armed forces intercepted a missile attack targeting the territory of the State of Qatar, according to an official statement issued by the Qatari Ministry of Defense, which confirmed the success of air defense systems in thwarting the attack without recording any human losses.
This development comes in a highly tense regional context, as Iran continues to launch missiles and drones towards a number of Gulf countries, as part of its response to the American-Israeli attack that has been ongoing since the end of last February, which portends an expansion of the circle of confrontation in the region. In a firm diplomatic position, Doha stressed earlier today that any path for dialogue with Tehran remains dependent on stopping the military attacks. The Qatari authorities confirmed that the continued targeting of Gulf countries undermines the chances of de-escalation and closes the door to diplomacy in the current stage. In this context, the French News Agency quoted the spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Al-Ansari, as saying that "diplomacy can only succeed if the attacks stop," adding that the current time "is not for forming joint committees, but rather for taking a clear principled position based on protecting countries and their sovereignty," calling on Iran to stop its attacks immediately. This escalation reflects the growing concern among the Gulf countries about the repercussions of the regional conflict, at a time when international calls are increasing to contain the crisis and avoid its slide towards a wider confrontation that could threaten the security and stability of the region.
