HIBAPRESS – Abdelatif Baraka

In a step that falls within the framework of the national health system reform project, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced the launch of the project to rebuild the Hassan II Regional Hospital Center in Agadir, with the aim of upgrading the quality of health services and strengthening the medical offer at the Souss-Massa region level.

This announcement came after a meeting chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amin Tahraoui, along with the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Said Amzazi, which was devoted to studying the details of this strategic project, which is expected to constitute a qualitative leap in the health sector in the region. The current hospital, which dates back to 1961, is unable to keep pace with the transformations taking place in the health field, whether in terms of infrastructure or the level of equipment, which necessitated the launch of the project to rebuild it according to modern standards that meet the expectations of the population. According to official data, a new modern generation hospital will be built on the same site, consisting of four floors, with a capacity ranging between 415 and 450 beds, with advanced medical equipment, and the enhancement of emergency services, in addition to the development of oncology treatment units. A financial envelope of approximately 1.1 billion dirhams has been allocated for this project. In the context of enabling the start of the works, it was decided to temporarily close the hospital starting from the end of March 2026, with the development of an organizational plan to ensure the continuity of health services. Emergency cases, pregnant women, and all cases requiring hospitalization will be directed to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir, while the "Day Clinic" will be allocated to receive medical consultations and routine examinations. The accompanying measures also include strengthening health services in the neighboring provinces to alleviate pressure, in addition to health centers continuing to provide their services as usual, with the redistribution of health cadres within the regional system while preserving their rights. The Ministry confirmed that it has mobilized all the possibilities to ensure the continuity of health services during the construction period in good and safe conditions, stressing that this project aims to establish a modern health institution that meets the aspirations of the region's population and improves the quality of patient care. At the conclusion of its statement, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection expressed its thanks to citizens for their understanding and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to ensuring the continuity of health services during this transitional phase under the best possible conditions.
