The spokesman for the head of the Israeli occupation government, Ziv Agmon, announced his resignation from his position and his decision to retire from public life.
Agmon's decision came after the uproar caused by leaks that included racist and offensive statements made by him. According to a report broadcast by the Hebrew "Channel 12", it revealed statements attributed to Ziv Agmon, in which he compared members of the "Likud" party of Moroccan origin to "monkeys" during private conversations. In a statement in which he announced his decision, Agmon tried to contain the crisis, considering that the statements attributed to him were "truncated" and were leaked by a person he trusted, stressing that they do not reflect his beliefs nor do they represent his official positions. He also offered a sincere apology, saying: "I apologize from the bottom of my heart to everyone who felt offended," adding that he chose to step down to avoid deepening the division in "this sensitive stage".
