HIBAPRESS
In a political moment not devoid of messages, the Social الوسط Party renewed its confidence in its Secretary-General, Lahcen Madih, for a new term, with a remarkable consensus during its seventh conference held in Casablanca last Saturday, March 28, 2026, under the slogan "From Territorial Unity to Social and Economic Construction," in a scene that reflects a clear desire for continuity, but also for repositioning within the political scene.
The conference was not just a regular organizational stop, but turned into a platform to direct explicit criticisms of the government's performance, where Professor Madih chose to raise the level of discourse, after a period of "political truce" that he previously justified regarding the specificity of the stage and the crises that accompanied it, from the Corona pandemic to the Al-Haouz earthquake and the repercussions of drought and international tensions. However, this hesitation, according to Professor Madih, did not yield the expected results, as he considered that the government did not fulfill its obligations, especially in the social sectors that still suffer from deep imbalances, at the forefront of which are health and education, in addition to the stumbling of reforms in other areas such as media, justice, and housing. In contrast to this criticism, the Secretary-General was keen to distinguish between the government's performance and the major strategic orientations of the country, praising the decisive role of the Royal Institution in managing crises, which is a rhetorical balance that reflects the party's attempt to position itself between responsible opposition and steadfast support for national constants. As for the major issues, the party reaffirmed its support for the autonomy initiative, but this time with a more daring tone, by calling for its explicit constitutionalization, and linking it to strict legal guarantees that protect territorial unity and prevent any future slippage towards secessionist theses. Internally, the conference passed smoothly, with unanimous approval of the literary and financial reports, and amendments to the basic law, which reflects organizational discipline. In conclusion, it seems that the Social الوسط Party has chosen, through this conference, to combine the establishment of the leadership and raising the ceiling of political discourse, in an attempt to return to the forefront of public discussion, through a discourse that criticizes government performance and presents itself as a reformist alternative in a stage characterized by increasing social expectations. The literary report was also read by Mr. Mohamed Boukhriss, the President of the National Council of the Party, in which he revealed a set of activities organized by the party during the last four years, including, for example, the organization of a communication meeting with civil society in the Taroudant region on the subject of "Opportunities and possibilities available for the development of villages and districts in the region," on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at the central headquarters of the party in Casablanca. To activate the role of the party woman, the Al-Wassat Women's Organization organized an open communication meeting on the subject of "Thinking about ways to liberate the Family Code from obstacles," on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the Anfa Cultural Complex in Casablanca, and the party organized a communication meeting with the youth of Azrou city on the subject of "The means to ensure political participation and manage public affairs" on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Dar Al-Shabab Socio-Ahdaf hall. On behalf of the Al-Wassat Women's Organization, Mrs. Ait Zeidan Khadija, the Vice President of the Organization and a member of the Political Bureau of the Party, delivered a speech in which she confirmed that the Al-Wassat woman is a fundamental pillar in political work within the Social الوسط Party, as she is an active partner alongside men in defending territorial unity, and a pivotal contributor to various development projects inside and outside the country. The speaker highlighted that Moroccan women have accumulated important gains in their struggle, but the current stage requires doubling efforts to strengthen their presence in decision-making centers, and to engage more broadly in the management of public affairs, whether at the local, regional, or national level. In this context, she called on Moroccan women to actively engage in political and party work, through candidacy and intensive participation in electoral entitlements, considering that political participation is a fundamental pillar for consolidating the democratic path and strengthening good governance. She also stressed the need to empower women politically and economically, and to provide the conditions for equal opportunities, in a way that ensures a strong presence for women in the various elected institutions, and contributes to the development of more equitable public policies that respond to the expectations of society. She concluded her speech by confirming that the Al-Wassat Women's Organization will continue its efforts in mentoring women and encouraging them to engage positively and responsibly, in a way that serves the issues of the nation and enhances the status of women as a key partner in democratic and development building.
