The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, confirmed today in Cairo that the federation respects the decision of its sanctions appeals committee regarding the events of the final match of the Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco 2025).
Motsepe said during a press conference following the work of the CAF Executive Committee, "As President of the Confederation of African Football, I respect the decision issued by the sanctions appeals committee." He also noted that the decision on the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) between Morocco and Senegal "is now in the hands of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)," stressing that the federation has no further comment until the official ruling is issued. In this context, he stressed that respecting the rulings of the Court of Arbitration for Sport is part of the principles of governance within the Confederation of African Football, and that the federation will continue its work as normal until the final decision is issued. On the other hand, the President of the Confederation of African Football affirmed his commitment and keenness to deal with all 54 member states of the federation with the same degree of equality and fairness. He also pointed out "the approval of amendments to the basic regulations of the federation, to avoid a repeat of the events that accompanied the final of the last tournament," stressing that the next stage will witness radical changes in the laws governing matches, especially with regard to the mechanisms for managing them and refereeing. He continued that these amendments would enhance confidence in referees, video technology referees, match delegates, disciplinary committees and the sanctions appeals committee. CAF had issued a statement today in which it confirmed that "it is making changes and improvements to its regulations and systems to enhance confidence in the federation's referees, video assistant technology operators, and judicial bodies, as these changes and improvements include not repeating the incidents that occurred in the final match of the Africa Cup of Nations."
