HIBAPRESS-Casablanca. A number of families residing in the Al-Amal district, part of the Hay Hassani district in Casablanca, have been living with a daily suffering that has been ongoing for years, due to the actions of a person suffering from serious mental disorders, in what they describe as "a complete absence of effective and decisive intervention by the local and security authorities".
According to consistent statements from a number of residents, the person in question, who lives alone in an apartment in building number 6, has been engaging in aggressive and repeated behaviors, ranging from direct threats, verbal abuse, and causing chaos and disturbance, which has created a state of constant fear and anxiety among families, especially women and children. The same sources confirm that the situation reached a dangerous level, after the person in question threw an object at the window of one of the apartments in the same building today, in a behavior that almost caused a disaster, before fleeing to an unknown destination, in a scene that reflects – according to their expression – "the seriousness and the breakdown of the situation". The latest incident raises big question marks about the seriousness of dealing with this file, especially since the person in question was previously transferred to the Ibn Rushd Psychiatric Hospital, before returning on the same day, in an intervention that the residents described as "modest and insufficient", considering that the matter requires continuous medical and legal follow-up, and not just a temporary measure. In this context, the affected families expressed their great astonishment at what they considered "a clear denial" on the part of some of the authorities and local authorities, despite the succession of complaints and appeals, demanding an investigation into the causes of this inaction, and holding each concerned party responsible. The residents also stressed that the continuation of this situation poses a real threat to their lives and physical safety, calling on the local authorities, the security services, and the competent health authorities to intervene urgently in accordance with the law, to ensure the care of the medical condition of the person concerned, and at the same time protect the population from any potential danger. The question remains urgent: How long will these families remain hostages of fear and waiting, in the absence of a radical solution that restores peace of mind to this neighborhood?
