The Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Tangier, on Tuesday, sentenced a young man to an increased prison sentence, raised from one year to two years in prison, due to his involvement in publishing posts and violating the privacy of individuals through social media, especially Facebook.
The court also ruled to prevent the accused from using any social media sites for ten years and increased the amount of civil compensation granted to the complainants to 100,000 dirhams each. The legal proceedings came after complaints filed by the head of the Municipal Council of Ksar El Kebir, the council secretary, and one of its advisors, who accused the accused of publishing their photos and causing them offense through the digital space. The session lasted more than four hours, during which the discussions of the Public Prosecution, the defense, and the evidence related to the case were reviewed.
