The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, who represented King Mohammed VI at the "One Health" summit, organized Tuesday in Lyon, highlighted the concrete initiatives led by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, in order to improve the health situation and promote a healthy environment in Africa.
Talbi Alami said in a speech during the ninth session of the "One Planet" summit, which focused on the theme of "One Health", that "Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has chosen a clear approach, which is the approach of working for health, for the climate, for sustainable agriculture, and for Africa." He explained that this commitment is embodied through concrete initiatives, including the (Triple A) initiative launched by His Majesty the King in order to adapt African agriculture to climate change, noting that "when the Ebola epidemic struck some African countries, Morocco demonstrated a spirit of responsibility and solidarity by maintaining its air flights." He added that the Kingdom provided important support to African countries, in accordance with the High Royal Directives, to confront the COVID-19 pandemic. He pointed out that "Africa is one of the continents most vulnerable to the repercussions of climate change, and to health risks and epidemics. The COVID-19 pandemic reminded us of that in a painful way, and at the same time revealed the limits of international solidarity. This situation is no longer acceptable," calling in this framework for the development of an ambitious health plan in Africa, based on an integrated and coordinated approach, in the spirit of "One Health." Talbi Alami stressed that "in an interconnected world, isolation remains just an illusion. No country can face these challenges alone," stressing the need to share knowledge, strengthen capacities, facilitate technology transfer, and invest jointly. The Speaker of the House of Representatives concluded by saying, "The pandemic has taught us a fundamental lesson: our destinies are inextricably linked, and that individual solutions in the face of global challenges are nothing but an illusion." The "One Health" summit brings together, for the first time, heads of state and government from around the world, along with representatives of relevant international and regional organizations, parliamentarians, scientists, and representatives of the private sector, civil society, local authorities, development banks, and youth, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of the "One Health" approach, which is based on the interrelationship between the health of humans, animals, and the environment. "One Health" falls within the framework of the "One Planet" summit, of which this event is the ninth session. This summit, organized on the initiative and under the presidency of French President Emmanuel Macron, aims to strengthen monitoring and prevention systems, and mobilize various actors, public and private, involved in the implementation of concrete measures. It also aims to rethink the global institutional framework for health, making the "One Health" approach a guiding compass for formulating public policies.
