HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
Early Wednesday morning, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran and agreed to suspend attacks against it for two weeks, following talks with Pakistan.
In a post on his "Truth Social" platform account, Trump confirmed that the United States had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, expressing his belief that it represented a viable basis for negotiation. The US President indicated that almost all previous points of contention between America and Iran had been agreed upon, and that the two-week period would allow the agreement to be finalized and completed, he said. Trump wrote in his post: "Based on conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Marshal Asim Munir, who asked me to stop sending destructive force tonight to Iran, and subject to Iran's agreement on the complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing of Iran and launch attacks on it for two weeks." He added: "This will be a ceasefire from both sides! The reason for this is that we have already achieved all the military goals, and even surpassed them, and we have gone a long way in reaching a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran, and peace in the Middle East." Trump continued: "We have received a ten-point proposal from Iran, and we believe it is a practical basis for negotiation. Almost all previous points of contention between the United States and Iran have been agreed upon, but the two-week period will allow the agreement to be finalized and activated." Trump concluded by saying: "On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also as a representative of the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor for me to see this long-standing problem approaching a solution."
