The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, warned that the global monetary system is not adequately prepared to face the growing risks posed by artificial intelligence, especially at the level of cybersecurity and financial stability.
This warning came on Sunday, April 12, prior to the start of the annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, and following an emergency meeting held last week by American regulatory bodies with senior bank officials, which was devoted to discussing the repercussions of a new model of artificial intelligence. Georgieva affirmed in press statements that the world currently lacks effective tools capable of fortifying the international monetary system against increasing cyber threats, saying: "As a world, we do not have sufficient capacity to protect the international monetary system from enormous cyber risks." The international official stressed the need to strengthen regulatory and supervisory frameworks, considering that artificial intelligence, despite its great opportunities, poses unprecedented challenges that require collective readiness to protect global financial stability. The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund called for the launch of broad international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, based on policy coordination and the exchange of experiences, to ensure a balance between technological innovation and the requirements of security and financial stability.
