Coinciding with the silence of the Algerian media about the incident, the African Union Commission announced its condemnation of the terrorist attacks that targeted the Wilaya of Blida, expressing its full solidarity with the Algerian people, and emphasizing its commitment to combating terrorism and extremism on the African continent.
The statement, which was signed by the head of the commission, described the attacks with "severe terms," and offered condolences to the families of the victims with wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured, stressing the importance of the role played by Algeria in counter-terrorism efforts within the continent.
The attention was not limited to the content of the condemnation issued by the African Union Commission, but extended to include the official silence that accompanied the incident.
As of this hour, the Algerian authorities have not issued any clarifying statement or official comment regarding what happened, which raised widespread questions about the circumstances of the incident and the extent of its repercussions.
In the same context, the local media maintained a near-total silence, while some of those affiliated with the authorities went to deny that any attack had occurred in the first place and linked it to a gas cylinder explosion, which increased the state of ambiguity surrounding the incident, and opened the door to interpretations and questions about the reality of what happened in Blida, coinciding with the Pope's visit to the eastern neighbor.
