Gabriela Sommerfeld, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador, affirmed on Friday in Rabat that the Kingdom of Morocco is a strategic partner and a gateway for her country to the African continent.
Sommerfeld highlighted, during a joint press conference following her talks with Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, the fundamental role of Morocco in strengthening Atlantic value chains, calling, in this regard, for the establishment of an economic space between the African and South American continents, capable of achieving tangible benefits for the productive sectors in both countries. The minister stressed that "Morocco is a key partner in achieving the goals of our country's economic strategy; namely, liberalizing trade, attracting investments, and enhancing competitiveness," explaining that Ecuador aspires to strengthen its presence in the Moroccan market. In this context, Sommerfeld focused on three main axes concerning the strengthening of the legal framework for investments, developing trade exchanges based on the integration of the two economies, and cooperation in the field of logistics and infrastructure, expressing her country's ambition to benefit from Moroccan expertise in the field of port management and facilitating trade exchanges. On the other hand, the Ecuadorian official addressed the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in promising sectors, especially renewable energy, energy transition, and decarbonization, which are considered tangible economic opportunities for diversifying national economies. The head of Ecuadorian diplomacy concluded that her meeting with Mr. Bourita embodies the distinguished bonds that unite the two countries, based on common principles and values, as well as a common will to raise bilateral cooperation to higher levels as partners and allies.
