HIBAPRESS
On Saturday, April 18th, Sheikh Naji Al-Qazzaz (Abu Ishaq), the muezzin of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, passed away after a long religious career spanning approximately 48 years of service in reciting the Adhan within the Al-Aqsa Mosque since 1978.
Sheikh Al-Qazzaz was known for his voice, which was associated for many decades with reciting the Adhan for the five daily prayers within the Noble Sanctuary, making him one of the most prominent muezzins who maintained the sonic and spiritual presence of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The deceased is considered one of the prominent religious figures in Jerusalem, where he continued his work in reciting the Adhan despite the difficult circumstances the city has faced, leaving a clear mark in the memory of worshippers and visitors to the mosque. Sheikh Al-Qazzaz also held a special place with the people of Jerusalem as one of the voices that formed part of the religious identity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and his name remained associated with the Adhan and recitation for decades. It is worth noting that Al-Aqsa Mosque has, in the past period, bid farewell to a number of its muezzins and reciters, the last of whom was Sheikh Yasser Qalibo in December 2025.
