HIBAPRESS
The Republic of Honduras has decided to suspend its recognition of the alleged "Sahrawi Republic".
Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, was informed of this decision by Mrs. Miria Agüero de Corrales, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Honduras, through an official letter received today, Wednesday. Mrs. Agüero de Corrales confirmed in this letter that this "suspension stems from its sovereign decision (Honduras), based on its traditional adherence to the principles of non-interference and respect for the internal affairs of other countries." In this letter, "Honduras reiterated its full support for the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his personal envoy aimed at reaching a political, just and lasting solution," as well as for the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, including Resolution 2797. The Republic of Honduras also informed Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, of this decision. It is worth mentioning that Honduras, the Central American country, had recognized the fake "Sahrawi Republic" in 1989 and reaffirmed this recognition in 2022. This is the sixth withdrawal of recognition in the past two years. Thus, Honduras' decision falls within the dynamics witnessed by the Moroccan Sahara file, under the direct leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him.
