The postponed ordinary session of the municipal council in the city of Tiflet, which was held on Wednesday, May 13, at Dar Al-Muwatin, witnessed an atmosphere charged with anger and resentment, after the surroundings of the session turned into a protest square against the head of the municipal council, Abd al-Samad Arrachane, because of what the residents considered a continuation of the policy of postponed promises and procrastination in addressing outstanding files.
The protest witnessed the presence of a number of citizens from the Sahb Al-Harsha division, the Zaytouna division, and the Dwar Draao, in addition to those affected from other areas, where the protesters raised social and service demands that, according to their expression, remained captive to promises without any tangible solutions on the ground. According to data obtained by HIBAPRESS, the state of resentment that erupted during the session was not surprising, but came after a series of meetings and commitments that Arrachane had previously made to the residents, before a number of them were postponed or passed without any actual results, which deepened the state of loss of confidence in the performance of the municipal council and its method of managing local affairs. With the rise in the intensity of tension and verbal protests in front of the venue of the session, the local authorities intervened to organize the situation and prevent a number of people from entering the hall, to avoid any possible breakdown, at a time when the protesters expressed their anger at the continued stumbling of files related to infrastructure and basic services, stressing that the city is living in a situation that does not equate to the size of the promises that are made on every occasion. Faced with the pressure imposed by the protesters, the head of the municipal council was forced to hold separate meetings with representatives of the residents and listen to their demands, offering new promises to work on finding solutions to the problems raised, but a number of citizens considered that the Tifleti street no longer trusts the repeated promises as much as it awaits practical measures that end the state of stagnation that several neighborhoods in the city are experiencing. The stand also witnessed the intervention of the municipal councilor, Azzalarab Hilmi, who affirmed his determination to follow up on these files and monitor the extent of the council's commitment to its promises, stressing the need to respect the elected institution's pledges to the residents. Despite the end of the protest in relative calm, what happened during the Wednesday session clearly revealed the size of the escalating anger within the Tifleti street, in light of the increasing criticisms directed at the head of the municipal council due to the repetition of promises without translating them into tangible results that meet the expectations of citizens.
