HIBAPRESS-Jerada
After the Socialist Union of Popular Forces party ranked third in the legislative elections held in the Jerada constituency on September 23, 2026, and lost the parliamentary seat its candidate, Said Baaziz, was competing for, questions arise about the possibility of the party resorting to the Constitutional Court again to challenge the election results, similar to what happened in previous electoral contests in the same constituency.
These questions are of particular importance given the party's past experience in the Jerada constituency, where challenges filed by Said Baaziz previously led to the cancellation of the elections of Mohamed El Bernichi of the Authenticity and Modernity Party and Ali El Jaghaoui of the Independence Party, following the 2016 and 2021 elections, by decisions issued by the constitutional judiciary.
In light of this precedent, followers of local political affairs are asking whether the Socialist Union will repeat this experience in the current elections, or if the party will be satisfied with the announced election results, especially since any new challenge remains contingent on the availability of legal data and arguments that can be relied upon.
These questions are increasingly present in the context of national political developments, following the announcement by the Socialist Union of Popular Forces of its participation in the expected government majority, which includes the Authenticity and Modernity Party, the Independence Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces, and the Party of Progress and Socialism, led by Fatima Zahra Mansouri.
This political fact raises an additional question about the nature of the relationship between the expected government alliance and local electoral competition in the Jerada constituency, where the Authenticity and Modernity Party topped the results led by Mohamed El Bernichi, the Independence Party came in second place led by Ali El Jaghaoui, while the Socialist Union came in third.
Between the requirements of the political alliance at the national level and the results of local electoral competition, it remains too early to determine the Socialist Union's position on any potential challenge, in the absence of an official announcement of taking this step or confirmation of filing a file with the Constitutional Court.
Will the Socialist Union of Popular Forces proceed with a new judicial path regarding the election results in the Jerada constituency, recalling the experiences of 2016 and 2021, or will the new political data make the party choose to deal with the results of the 2026 ballot with a different logic?
A question that remains open, pending any clarifications from the party leadership or its representatives in the region regarding their position on the results of the recent legislative elections.
