The Moroccan Association for Human Rights, Tiznit branch, has called for urgent intervention to address the poor public lighting in a number of streets and neighborhoods in the city, while intensifying field monitoring of construction sites and ensuring their compliance with safety and prevention conditions, to avoid risks that could threaten citizens and road users.
The association, in an open letter addressed to the governor of Tiznit province, expressed its concern over the coincidence of lighting malfunctions with ongoing work in some areas, considering that this situation may increase the likelihood of accidents, especially during evening hours, when pedestrians and drivers find it difficult to navigate amidst poor visibility or the absence of necessary signaling and warning equipment.
The human rights body warned that the safety of citizens requires not only launching construction sites but also ensuring their surroundings are secured by placing protective barriers and necessary guidance signs, in addition to repairing the recorded faults in the public lighting network, especially in areas with heavy pedestrian and road user traffic.
The association also stressed the need to pay special attention to students, by securing the vicinity of educational institutions and the paths leading to them, to avoid exposing them to potential risks during their commute, especially when leaving schools in the evening.
The association demanded that the governor intervene with the competent authorities and bodies to take practical and urgent measures, including repairing public lighting, tightening supervision of construction sites, and obliging the supervising entities to adhere to safety and signaling standards and secure the work environment.
