HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyaoui
The Court of Appeal's Criminal Chamber in Fez has concluded the appeals stage of the case involving the ramming of a nightclub belonging to a hotel in the Ain Chqf commune, by deciding to uphold the initial sentence of 30 years imprisonment for the accused. This comes in the wake of a serious incident that resulted in the deaths of two guards and injuries to three other individuals.
The judicial decision, issued on Tuesday night, confirmed the initially imposed penalty after the individual was prosecuted on charges including premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder, public intoxication, driving under the influence of alcohol, and causing material damage to the property of others.
The details of this case date back to the morning of Sunday, January 4th, when a large "Mitsubishi" truck smashed into the facilities of a hotel located within the territorial jurisdiction of the Ain Chqf commune, on the outskirts of Fez, before colliding with the nightclub's premises, an incident that caused significant human and material losses.
The incident resulted in the death of two guards, one of whom breathed his last in the intensive care unit of the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fez, succumbing to the severe injuries he sustained, while three other individuals were transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
The repercussions of the accident were not limited to human losses but extended to the hotel's property, with nine cars parked in its garage being damaged, in addition to damage to several of the hotel establishment's facilities.
By upholding the initial sentence, the Court of Appeal's Criminal Chamber has maintained the prison sentence issued against the accused in one of the cases that has captured the attention of the local public opinion, given the seriousness of the incident and the scale of the losses it caused.
