HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
The case of a Moroccan family residing in Spain, consisting of a father, mother, and six minor children, has sparked a debate about the difficulties of obtaining housing and the challenges of renewing rental contracts, after the family was evicted from the apartment they were occupying, in execution of a judicial ruling issued following a dispute with the property owner.
According to information circulating about the case, the apartment rental contract extended for three years and ended in 2021. The owner informed the family of his desire to repossess the property to live in it with his wife, without renewing the contract. However, the family insisted on staying in the apartment due to the difficulty of finding alternative housing that suited their needs and financial capabilities.
The circulating narrative indicates that the father faced difficulties in finding another home, in light of what the data described as obstacles related to high rental costs, the size of the family which includes eight individuals, as well as allegations of some owners refusing to rent housing to immigrants.
Faced with the ongoing dispute, the apartment owner resorted to the judiciary, where an eviction ruling was issued, which was subsequently enforced by the competent authorities, ending the family's residency in the dwelling they occupied.
The eviction process was accompanied by protests in which solidarity activists participated with the family, amidst security intervention to disperse them.
