HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Elbaz
Members of the Moroccan community residing in the outskirts of the cities of Padua and Rovigo found themselves in a state of great confusion before Eid al-Adha, following the decision of the Italian authorities to close the "Adria" slaughterhouse due to violations related to health safety conditions and non-compliance with the standards in force within the approved slaughterhouses.
The decision, which triggered a wave of widespread resentment among Moroccans residing in the region, deprived dozens of families of the possibility of slaughtering sacrifices under legal and organized conditions, especially since the slaughterhouse was considered the main destination for the community during the Eid season. In an exclusive statement to HIBAPRESS, civil activist in Italy Younes Mchaoui confirmed that the Italian authorities tightened health control measures after recording imbalances inside the slaughterhouse, which led to the immediate suspension of its activity, considering that the situation reveals the fragility of the infrastructure allocated to the services of the Moroccan community during religious occasions. The speaker added that the absence of practical and licensed alternatives puts hundreds of Moroccan families in front of complex choices, calling for urgent action from the relevant authorities to find solutions that preserve the community's right to practice its religious rituals within a framework that respects Italian laws and the applicable health standards. This incident brings to the forefront the suffering of the Moroccan community in Italy with the limited licensed spaces for slaughtering sacrifices, in exchange for the local authorities tightening their control over cleanliness and safety conditions, at a time when demand is increasing with the approach of Eid al-Adha.
