HIBAPRESS – Tangier
Italy is participating today in the "4 MED" sailing race, a maritime event bringing together youth from twelve Mediterranean countries in the Bay of Tangier. The event is also attended by the Italian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Pasquale Salzano, alongside the Italian delegation which includes six young people representing the cultural association "Usamborgia," based in the city of Avola in Sicily.
The Italian participation, overseen by the Italian Embassy in Rabat, is part of the initiatives organized on the occasion of the third edition of the Italian Sports Day in the World, launched by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. This year's edition is dedicated to the sea, water sports, and the opportunities offered by the blue economy.
This event is organized by the Moroccan NGO "Tibu Africa," under the patronage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The "4 MED" sailing race brings together youth from Albania, Egypt, France, Jordan, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey.
In this context, Italian Ambassador Pasquale Salzano stated: "Sports diplomacy also begins with young people. In the Mediterranean region, which is experiencing many tensions, the gathering of youth from twelve countries, their competition, and their sharing of a common experience, sends an important message."
He added: "Sports are capable of building bridges of trust and friendship, even in situations where dialogue between countries becomes more difficult. Italy firmly believes in the importance of such initiatives, as investing in the rising generations is an investment in the future of relations between our countries."
This event, organized from October 19 to 25 between the cities of Tangier and Tetouan, continues with a program that combines maritime activities, training and social inclusion initiatives, marine environmental protection, as well as meetings dedicated to introducing careers related to the sea.
The Italian participation also includes organizing a photography exhibition dedicated to sailing and water sports, through a collection of images provided by the Italian Sailing Federation.
In conclusion to his statement, Mr. Salzano affirmed: "The sea that unites us can offer young people not only opportunities for acquaintance and communication but also tangible prospects for training and employment. This is precisely the goal we aim to achieve through our participation, which is to highlight Italy's deep-rooted maritime traditions and strengthen the bonds between Italy, Morocco, and the rest of the Mediterranean countries, through sport."
