HIBAPRESS-Taroudant
The kindergarten teachers' union in Taroudant, affiliated with the National Union of Education – Moroccan Workers' Union, has called on the provincial governor to intervene urgently to stop the sale of subsidized textbooks within public educational institutions. They consider these practices, if proven, to undermine the principle of free kindergarten education and impose additional financial burdens on families.
The union clarified, in a letter dated October 5th of this month, that there is a disparity in the management and distribution of textbooks between institutions and the supervising associations, in addition to involving educational staff in financial transactions that they believe conflict with the objectives of public support allocated to this initiative.
The provincial office called for tightening supervision over the supervising associations, conducting a comprehensive audit of their adherence to service level agreements, and ensuring the complete and free delivery of school bags and supplies to the beneficiary children.
It also stressed the necessity of preventing teachers from collecting money, to avoid any social tension that might result from these practices. These demands reopen the debate about the mechanisms for managing subsidized textbooks and the extent to which the conditions for benefiting from them are respected, pending clarifications from the relevant educational and administrative authorities regarding the nature of these imbalances and their compliance with applicable regulations.
